2. I’ve got some family members that would make great PCAs! Can they work for me?


Any family members you choose can work for you as a PCA. However, MassHealth will only pay those family members who have no legal responsibilities to provide care to you.

For example, a parent cannot get paid for taking care of their minor child (under 18 years old). Your legally married spouse cannot be paid to take care of you. If the child is 18 or older, the parent can take care of child and be paid.

Furthermore, a son or daughter can be paid to take care of parent.

If you take on legal responsibility as a guardian, you cannot be paid as a PCA to take care of the person you are legally responsible for.
